mRNA stands for messenger RNA. These are nucleotide polymers which are transcribe from genomic DNA (from a gene) and then translated into amino acid chains that form proteins. The translation of mRNAs to amino acids uses the genetic code to determine which triplet set of nucleotides codons code for which amino acid.
